Welcome to this cosy corner of the internet and for joining me on my slow life journey. I’m Katherine, a mother of two and a creative spirit who finds joy in the simple things in life. I live in a cottage with my husband, daughter (Olivia), bump (to join us July 2023) and dog (Harry) in England.
I have many creative outlets and hobbies that I enjoy pursuing, such as: reading, writing, painting, hiking and playing with my daughter.
This blog is a space where intentional living is upheld, encompassing organization, interior design and minimalism. In addition to this, ‘A Nestled Journal’ is a platform where wellness is celebrated and a place you come to in order to feel inspired to grow. As I share my advice, musings and concepts with you, do be a part of this slow movement community and likewise shed wisdom from your own experiences.
Don’t be a stranger, say hi and get nestled into my journal!
To Cut a Long Story Short…
Ever since I was at University back in 2010 I loved to write on my then blog ‘And Kate’. I found the process of planning content, shooting photographs, editing, writing and being part of a community such a thrill. I pursued ‘And Kate’ for just under eight years and learnt a heck of a lot about myself from the experience.
Fast-forwarding through into early adulthood, I embarked on my career as a full-time primary school teacher in a disadvantaged area of England. As much as I loved the opportunity to transfer the skills I harnessed during my blogging years, I unfortunately lost momentum with my then fashion blog. In addition to this, I had changed since my University days and my interest in fashion dwindled as I started investing my money in property instead. For the most part of my twenties I and my husband, Ben, have been renovating properties and loved the process of turning a shell of a house into a fully-fledged home.
At the age of 24, we welcomed our first child, Olivia, into our family and ever since then I have been adamant that life is for living, not for tirelessly boxing off for the weekend only. Having Olivia gifted me with the opportunity to stop, slow down and take notice. I remember noting to myself how drastically different the world seemed to appear through the shared experience with a young child. I started noticing things I never used to notice, the textures of day-to-day items, the intricacies of nature wherever you look, the ability to let my imagination run wild when playing with her. Ironically, not to mention the sacredness of five minutes peace!
As we have been renovating our once derelict cottage for the past two years, I have manifested a lifestyle that I am now living: a calmer and more centered outlook. The experience of living in a tiny house structure has been humbling and in all honesty, truly fantastic as it has allowed me to really understand the significance of simplicity and therefore: minimalism. Through recrafting our home from the very inception of it, I feel as though the knowledge I have on curating a home that works harmoniously in balance with you is achievable. I have so many ideas to share and am brimming with upmost optimism for the future.
So, grab your journal, a fragrant tea and get nestled.
With love,
Katherine x
